The BOXB1 is a 15W square surface mounted downlight for ceilings with little cavity space, or where a cut-out cannot be made. It fixes to the ceiling face, so it works as a straightforward alternative to a recessed downlight in tight or solid ceilings. Choose a 15, 24 or 36 degree beam depending on whether the light is for accenting or for general coverage, with trailing edge, DALI and non-dim versions available. Q: When should I choose a surface-mounted downlight over a recessed downlight?

A: Choose a surface-mounted downlight when the ceiling can't be cut or there isn't enough ceiling void for a recessed fitting. Typical cases include concrete slabs, exposed timber beams, low ceiling voids and retrofits where the existing ceiling should stay untouched. The fitting mounts directly on the ceiling face, so no cut-out is required.

Q: Can surface mounted downlights be used on low ceilings?

A: Yes, because they don't need any ceiling void. They do sit proud of the ceiling, so check the fitting depth against the ceiling height, particularly above doorways and walkways.
